Upon seeing the movie, I thought that it was done really well as a re-imagining. Director José Padilha and screenwriter, Joshua Zetumer did an excellent job. RoboCop's black form was pretty awesome made it look all sinister. But what the remake movie did not do was explain exactly how he was able to kill Raymond Sellers. In the old 1987 movie, RoboCop overwrote the program controlling him. But in the newer movies, RoboCop forces himself to shoot Raymond Sellers in the end. This could be speculated that it was due the fact that his right hand was the only thing left human of him, or that he powered through human emotions.
Another thing that differed from the movie was that RoboCop in the older movies still had his upper half of his body still alive. In the 2014 remake, what is revealed under the mechanical parts his that only RoboCop/Alex Murphy's Head, lungs and esophagus remains. It was rather grotesque to see those lungs pulsating and your first impression is "how is he able to still be alive". But this perfectly shows the horror that is thrown upon Alex Murphy after he wakes up from his accident, only to find he has become a machine.
Also the movie holds a cameo of the 1987 RoboCop where he transforms with the lights on his shoulders.
Also much of those unmanned machines reminded me of the gekos from Metal Gear Solid 4. It gave out a dystopia cyberpunk future world. The only thing I will have to dislike about the movie is the fact that it's rating went from an R to PG-13, and that did hamper on some of my enjoyment as the PG-13 movie made the fight scenes someone watered down.
This movie did great in its execution and was watchable. Fans may argue that the original was superior to the remake. I will have to disagree. The remake did a great job. It's a recommended see if you don't mind watching a bit more family-friendly version of RoboCop.
